Restauração de Tutancâmon é difícil -- Tutankhamun's restoration is difficult. --

Lá fora, o calor escaldante do Cairo.

Pânico no museu.

Tutankhamun's restoration is difficult.

All it took was a single inattention one day in August 2014 for a cultural heritage was broken. Outside, the searing heat of Cairo. Inside the Egyptian Museum, facial expressions gold: the death mask of Tutankhamun pharaoh, intact and protected by glass bullet-proof. So far.

Restarador the Roman-Germanic Central Museum in Mainz, Germany, Christian Eckmann said to be remarkable moment staying with Pharaoh mask in front

The showcase lamp needed to be replaced, and the unthinkable happened. When the play of more than 12 kilos was hoisted to return to base, a long beard, artistically crafted and world famous, broke. Panic at the museum. The pieces of Pharaoh were quickly, and in a somewhat sloppy, glued back. Now, German experts pore over the mask to restore restored.

"Accidents happen," says Christian Eckmann, restorer of the Roman-Germanic Central Museum in Mainz, Germany. A hologram takes the place of the treasure museum, while the original is in the hands of experts.

The glue, made of an insoluble epoxy resin, "must be removed mechanically," explains Katja restorative Broschat, Eckmann colleague in Mainz. Every day, Eckmann and Broschat work in a museum room that looks more like a surgical center: equipment, lights and a microscope focused on the patient Tutankhamun and his beard.

To avoid damaging the gold, both shave, millimeter by millimeter, the glue between the beard and chin with wooden chopsticks. Within days, they want to separate the beard mask - that's how she came to the museum after the Egyptologist Howard Carter discovered, in 1922, the tomb of Tutankhamun, who died about 3,300 years in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt. There is evidence that the mask of the deceased and beard were held together only by a detachable connector.

Both sides were glued to each other for the first time after the Second World War, nearly 70 years before it happened what Eckmann calls "the accident". It may be that the mask refitting be completed only at the end of the year. It is unclear whether the connection between the structure and the beard will be made with a connector, a magnet or a special glue.

The accident, however, it became an opportunity: to investigate the death mask, including the search for possible evidence to support the theory that it was not originally made for Tutankhamun, but for a woman. Moreover, no one knows what the pharaoh's beard is filled. Eckmann and Broschat may be the first to know.

The pressure and expectations are huge. "I must admit that having the mask in front of me was a very important moment in my career," said Eckmann. "I would sleep better if the beautiful piece was already in the window again."

"The greatest discovery of all time"
In his research paper, Reeves said, coupled north of Tutankhamun's tomb, is "the untouched tomb of the original owner of the tomb - Nefertiti". In the British publication The Economist, however, Reeve was more cautious: "If I'm wrong, I'm wrong But if you're right, this is potentially the greatest archaeological discovery of all time.".

Next to Cleopatra, Nefertiti remains one of the female figures most notorious and revered of ancient Egypt. Its impressive bust of 3300 years, carved in limestone, was discovered in a dig at Armana in Egypt in 1912 by German archaeologist Ludwig Borchardt.

Nefertiti, whose name means "the beautiful has come," was also known as the "Lady of the Two Lands", as many researchers speculate that she has foreign origin and would have been a princess of an empire that existed in what is now the eastern region from Turkey.

The Nefertiti bust is on display at the Neues Museum in Berlin and is one of the most popular attractions of the German capital.

At the Moulin Rouge Tinta a óleo 1,23 m x 1,41 m 1892–1895

Sremska Mitrovica, Archaeological Museum. -- Sremska Mitrovica, Museu Arqueológico

Situated on the North bank of the Sava, not far from the Danube, Sirmium was one of the most important cities in the Roman Empire. The Second Legion Adiutrix stayed here for a while, Trajan used it when he attacked Dacia, it was the place where Marcus Aurelius presided the trial of Herodes Atticus. No less than ten emperors were born in or near Sirmium, which became an imperial residence in the fourth century.

Today, it is a provincial town in northwestern Serbia, not far from the Croatian border. There is a beautiful church in the center, dedicated to Saint Demetrius. Next to it is the small archaeological museum. In the neighborhood, there are two excavations – the one in the northwest may have been a bathhouse, the other is a building next to the ancient hippodrome, which is now covered by a park.

The ancient imperial basilica – is this the place where Theodosius was presented as Gratian‘s coruler? – is now in a special hall, which I was not able to visit because it closed earlier than I had expected: at four o’ clock in the afternoon. Nevertheless, there were large windows, which allowed you to see quite a lot.

The museum is nice. Upstairs, there are several rooms with archaeological finds from the ancient city. You will see many objects from daily life, some small sculpture, weapons, a couple of frescos, a few inscriptions, and a bit of pottery. I liked the roof tile, made in 582, containing a prayer: Christ was asked to help the city halt the Avars, to protect the Roman Empire and the maker of the tile.

There’s also a courtyard with inscriptions. I saw records of II Adiutrix, XIII Gemina, I Minervia, and VIII Augusta, several nice reliefs, a couple of beautiful tombs, a mosaic, and – most of all – a wooden boat that lay almost unprotected. I was surprised to see a dedication to Neptune, so far from the sea. It is of course not the most beautiful museum in the world, but the people are friendly, and it is certainly worth a visit.

My article on ancient Sirmium is here, with many photos from the museum.

Próximo a ele é o pequeno museu arqueológico.

Une vidéo sera également présentée, de Bill Viola, intitulée The Quintet of the Astonished.
