Ankara - Independence War Museum (1stTurkish Grand National Assembly Building) --- Ankara - Independência War Museum

The building is located in Ulus Square, Ankara. Initially it was planned as the Committee of Union and Progress Party building and designed by the pious foundation's architect Salim Bey and the construction, which started in 1915, was supervised by the Army Corps architect Hasip Bey.

The two-storey building is in Turkish architectural style and its most prominent characteristic is the use of Ankara stone (andesite) in its masonry walls.
When the decision was given to gather the National Assembly in this building on 23 April 1920, the construction was not yet complete. It was completed as a result of the enthusiasm and contributions of the people.

The building functioned as the I. Turkish Grand National Assembly between 23 April 1920 and 15 October 1924. Later, it was used as People's Republican Party headquarters and Law School. In 1952 it was transferred to the Ministry of Education and restoration works started in 1957 to convert the building for a museum. It was opened to public as the Turkish Grand National Assembly Museum in 23 April 1961.

In the beginning of 1981, the new restoration and refurbishment work started by the Antiquities and Museums General Directorate of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism within the programme of Atatürk's centenary birth celebrations. The building reopened to the public as the Independence War Museum on 23 April 1981.

Opening of the I. Turkish Grand National Assembly

Crowds of thousands of people gathered around the building for the opening of Assembly on 23 April 1920. After the ceremonies the Assembly had its first meeting with 115 representatives. The first speech was made by the President of the Assembly, elected for being the oldest member, Sinop representative Serif Bey.

“Honourable members of the Assembly,
It is well known that the Capitol of Caliphate and the Government has been occupied in temporary terms by the enemy forces and our independence has been restricted in every respect. Submission to these conditions means acceptance of captivity imposed by the foreign powers. However, eternally free and an independent nation of ours, determined to exist in absolute independence, rejected this captivity with final determination and by gathering its representatives, brought into being this Grand Assembly of ours. In the name of the speaker of the Grand Assembly and by the help of God, I declare the principals of absolute independence and self determination of the nation to the whole world and open the National Assembly.”

After this opening speech, Ankara representative Mustafa Kemal had his turn to speak and explained the method implemented for the election of members to form the assembly:

“As you all know, our Grand Assembly is constituted by the re-elected honourable members charged with extraordinary powers and honourable members fleeing from the Government Capital which was attacked and occupied. The constitution of this Grand Assembly was made possible only by the new election system, which included those who were able to flee from the capital and join us. Presently your Assembly is meeting with all legalities.”
The second session of the Assembly held on 24 April 1920 and Mustafa Kemal unanimously elected as the President of the Assembly.
Mustafa Kemal made a lengthy and significant speech in this meeting. Saying, “There is no power above this Grand Assembly anymore...” indicated the importance of this Assembly.

Independence War concluded by the successful leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal and the decisions taken in the First Turkish Grand National Assembly. Among those decisions are, approval of the First Constitution on 20 January 1921, approval of the National Anthem on 12 March 1921 and abolishing of Sultanate on 1 November 1922. Besides labelling all displays, special systems have been provided to enable people suffering visual impairment to interact with museum facilities through an open display and Braille language symbols, creating direct tactile contact with the pieces, which follows direct interaction with objects that is common in local Arabic culture.

To enable families and children to interact with museum facilities, a number of halls have been allocated for cultural exercises and educational games. The museum will contain a wide range of digital interpretation systems, including television screens, interactive presentations and audio systems that will be used in presenting Oman’s intangible heritage.

In addition to these interpretative systems there will be a cinema hall provided with 3D technology for displaying rich documentary films that reflect subtle cultural principles. These halls are particularly aimed at visitors who do not have time to stroll around the exhibition halls and different sections.

The museum houses more than five thousand archaeological pieces that reveal various historical periods of Oman’s history, since the beginning of human settlement to the present time, through a systematic and integrated conservation system. The Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, a prestigious institution based in Portugal, and to initiate this cooperation, the Ministry invited a team of specialists to study two thousand archaeological pieces to assess their physical condition in order to develop a practical program for the rehabilitation of collections, which will start in 2013. The foundation has also conducted laboratory studies to determine the quality of the soil and materials used in building the museum so as to develop a risk management programme to control the safety of the collections. The foundation has also prepared precise criteria for environmental factors required for the display cases and exhibition halls.

One essential part of the structure of the National Museum is designed to deal with different types and age groups of visitors. It aims to serve all visitors, but for those with only a short time to visit the museum there are specific tours for this purpose.

Madara Rider - is an archaeological site, a relief image of a rider carved in IX. --- Мадарский всадник – это археологический памятник, рельефное изображение всадника, высеченное в ІХ -- Madara Rider - é um sítio arqueológico, uma imagem de relevo esculpido de um cavaleiro no IX

Madara Rider - is an archaeological site, a relief image of a rider carved in IX century sacred to the then Bulgarian hundred-meter cliff. This is a unique rock relief - a sample of medieval Bulgarian art symbolizing the power of the Bulgarian state in his Khan's period, the only one of its kind in Europe - is the most concise definition of the famous Madara Horseman.

Due to the exceptionally high values in 1979. The Madara Horseman was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage monument of world significance - only four years after Bulgaria signed in Paris, adopted the Convention on World Heritage.

Impressive horseman with head held high looking into the distance from a height of 23 m. In order to enjoy the regal profile of the rider should go to the north-eastern Bulgaria. The rocky terrain is located near the village of Madara, 15-20 km from the town of Shumen. And to the foot of the high cliffs of smooth walk down the path that leads between the fragrant lilac bushes.

Madara Horseman was carved in the IX century in the hundred-meter cliff, which was the main sacred place for the then Bulgarian. The scene depicts the rocky terrain is not a military or hunting. Horseman spearing the lion prostrate and quietly enjoy the victory. He sits with a helmet on his head, clothes on his knees, with a spear in his right hand and the left - he holds a horse halter. The back seat of his high, to the rider could relax during campaigns. Near the rider is a dog - a sacred animal Bulgarians.

On both sides of the rider carved inscriptions in three different eras, telling about important political events in the life of the Bulgarian state, occurred with 705 of 801 a year, pertaining to relations with Byzantium at the then Bulgarian khans Tervel, Kormisosh and Omurtag. This rock chronicle for the first time mentioned the name of Bulgarians.

Madara Horseman - a part of the National Historical and Archaeological Reserve "Madara", including a pagan sanctuary, a temple (a pagan temple), palaces and residential buildings, a variety of structures. At the foot of the cliffs there is a large cave where the ancient Thracians honored their gods. Nearby there are also the first Bulgarian capital Pliska and Preslav (681-1018 years).

Madara Horseman was discovered in 1872 by Felix Kanitz - Hungarian archaeologist, ethnographer, geographer and artist. Next researcher monument - Karel Shkorpil - founder of archeology in Bulgaria. Since then, the science of history Bulgaria has gone through various stages associated with different hypotheses about the nature of the unique rocky relief.

This is one of the nine Bulgarian monuments included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Madara Horseman Also Madara Horseman on the role of a symbol of Bulgaria offered as the Cyrillic alphabet (the Old Slavonic language for which it was created, based on the ancient Bulgarian dialect, and Bulgarians firmly believe Thessalonica brothers own the same kin), the historic Tsarevets hill in the center of Velikotyrnova, Rose (and rose oil ) and the Rila Monastery.

The most common theory suggests that the image of the Thracian horseman, or the image of the national hero of the Bulgarian ruler - Khan. Maybe - Khan Tervel, from the military which, Byzantine Emperor Justinian II returned to the throne, after the shameful captivity in 705. Instead, the Bulgarian Khan receives honor and gifts, and Bulgaria - the land south of the Stara Planina mountain. Byzantium is obliged to pay an annual fee to the young Khanate. While Khan Tervel was awarded the title of "Caesar." Some historians believe that this fearless warrior - Khan Asparuh, the founder of the Bulgarian state. But others point out the names of the Khans Kormisosh and Omurtag.

Until that time, when they began to study the historical image, the locals believed that this communication. George.

According to modern research, a characteristic sign that the Thracian rider, and has a Bulgarian origin, it is the presence of the stapes. In Europe and in the Balkans, it postponed the Bulgarians. In the picture you can see a horse and another important characteristic feature of the Bulgarians, namely woven horse's tail - a symbol of order and discipline, which is a sign of the Bulgarian horde. Near the rider is the dog, which was a sacred animal Bulgarians. On the other hand, realistic and three-dimensional image of figures has not been characteristic of art in Europe in those days. In the early Middle Ages images of riders and horses only, often met in Bulgaria - depicted on the stone, engraved on metal vessels, izrisoval on ceramic plates.

Whoever it was not this stone guard, he is a story about the greatness of Bulgarian rulers and surprising unique artistic craftsmanship. Today, Madara Horseman threatened erosion, caused by various factors. Madara Horseman ranks among the 100 objects in the world are under serious threat. Most of the inscriptions this monument destroyed in the beginning of the last century, after the removal of a relief plaster print. The two main issues - the fight against microorganisms and strengthening of rock massif.

As duas questões principais - a luta contra microorganismos e fortalecimento do maciço rochoso.
