--- Brazilian culture and language: - TUPI - The Tupi or Old Tupi was the language spoken by Tupi peoples who inhabited the coast of Brazil in the sixteenth century

No século XVII ele daria origem a línguas gerais.

Brazilian culture and language: - TUPI - The Tupi or Old Tupi was the language spoken by Tupi peoples who inhabited the coast of Brazil in the sixteenth century

The former Tupi was the language most used in Brazil's coast in the sixteenth century. In the seventeenth century it would lead to general languages. These were, for centuries, the languages of the majority of the Brazilian colonial system, Indians, Africans and Europeans black, contributing to the political unity of our country. Bequeathed to the Portuguese language in Brazil thousands of terms, named thousands of places in our territory, penetrated our colonial literature, Romanticism in Modernism, it was the fundamental reference for all who wanted to affirm the cultural identity of Brazil.

-

The Tupi or Old Tupi was the language spoken by Tupi peoples who inhabited the coast of Brazil in the sixteenth century (tupinambás, tupiniquins, caetés, tamoios, potiguaras, temiminós, tabajaras etc.). It was learned by the Portuguese settlers who then landed from that century and, through them and their mixed descendants (for example, the pioneers), has become the most used language not only on the coast but around the current Brazil during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It has several documents that prove their existence, and the Jesuit priest José de Anchieta considered as its first grammarian (Jesuits who created the written language representation, which was hitherto exclusively oral). Anchieta was not, however, the first Jesuit to learn the native language: the Basque priest João de Azpilcueta Navarro wrote the first hymns in their preaching to the Indians.

In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, it was called by Brasílica speaking Portuguese to be the most used language in Brazil (the term "Tupi" only became widespread from the nineteenth century). Europeans who were going to live in Brazil, and the African slaves who were brought to the country, learned and spoke in their day to day using the Portuguese only in its relations with the Portuguese Crown. Had its grammar studied by the Jesuits (which used as catechetical instrument). Ceased to be spoken in the late 17th century when it was supplanted by the general language.

With the prohibition of the language by the Marquis of Pombal in 1758, Tupi was no longer the most spoken language in Brazil, being replaced by Portuguese. It is currently considered a dead language. Your Sao Paulo downward, the São Paulo general language, continued, however, to be spoken within the current state of São Paulo until the early 20th century and its Amazon downward, the nheengatu, is still spoken today in the river valley black, in the Amazon. The Tupi language continues also present in the Brazilian daily through various Tupi names that are in the Brazilian geography and the names of various animals and native plants of Brazil.

Generally, they are descriptions of the things referred to, involving a full explanation. Each word can be a real sentence. Decipher the meaning of words often requires a site visit referred to the term. An example of this is the place name Paranapiacaba = paraná + epiak + - (s) tab, "Sea" + "see" + "place" = "place where you see the sea", which refers to a point in the Serra do Mar where I could see the sea. The Tupi language is binding, it does not have articles (as well as Latin) and not flex nor gender nor number.

Lift reliable information on the phonology of the Tupi language for a possible phonological reconstruction would be difficult or even impossible task, had not the Tupi, and more specifically the Tupi-Guarani family, which the Tupi part, a wide geographical distribution. Leading to a phonological reconstruction, already held, it was that the nheengatu, a language descended from Tupi, be talked about today in the Amazon. Adding to this fact, already quite favorable, one can not fail to mention the continuity of the old Guarani, distinct language but very close to Tupi, in today's Guarani-Mbya, Guarani-Nhandeva, Guarani-Kaiowa and Guarani of Paraguay. Being as strong favorable points, it became feasible reconstruction of Tupi phonology.

Children’s Museum in Oman. -- Museu Infantil Oman.

Among the many museums that a visitor can get to seeing in the sultanate of Oman the Children’s Museum Oman is an extremely interesting place, not just for children, but for their parents and care takers too.

Officially thrown open to the public in the year 1990 on the 20th National day of the country, by Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said, this museum close to the Qurum Nature Park is placed inside two spectacular buildings shaped like domes and is found at the foot of the hill where Mumtaz Mahal / Left bank are situated. In spite of the fact that it is a children’s museum, this museum is believed to have over fifty thousand visitors every year. Typically this is a science museum that occupies about ten thousand square feet of space and has about forty five exhibits and two demonstrations.

Managed and run by an ex-school teacher Samirah Ahmed al Raisi since the past six years, there are ever so many objects of interest inside the Children’s Museum like communicative scientific displays that are designed for kids who are in the age group of between six and twelve. Nevertheless even kids who are younger have plenty of fun engaging themselves with the varied exhibits though they are not old enough to comprehend the concepts that are demonstrated. In fact the museum is segregated into three sections namely the human life, physics and act of observing and understanding through investigative ventures how science seems to have progressed over the years.

The most intriguing part of these exhibits are that many of them are ones where the children participate in hands-on learning activities like how one learns to change gears with the help of moveable cogs, the feeling of a false electric shock, how a bolt of lightening can be triggered, the method of setting off a hot air balloon, taking photographs of one’s own shadow and passing messages via the whispering Dish.

In fact the Whispering Dishes are something that children are taken in by. These dishes are placed pretty far apart, yet when someone whispers into one of them the other person at the other dish can hear what was said very clearly. The property of the reflectors in the dishes here explain that all sounds starting from a focal point are so reflected that they move on parallel paths and reach the other dishes, though they cannot be heard by the naked ear.

One also finds a variety of optical illusions that deceive the children’ into viewing things differently. As well as there are so many things that teach the child different facets of physics like weight, speed, pressure force and reaction time.

Most children who visit the Children’s Museum are enamoured of the life sized human skeleton and a human body that has all the internal parts that are moveable such that the children learn where exactly the different organs of the body are found. Kids get to inspect a lot of things under a microscope. There is also a mirror that reflects the pattern of stars and the child is required to look into the mirror and with the help of a pointer trace between the stars. If he happens to touch any of the sides there is a beep to show failure.

Managed and run by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture the Children’s Museum, Oman is open form 9.30 am to 1.30 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays and from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm on Saturdays.

--- Heritage Museum Portuguese Settlement in Malacca, Malaysia

A nossa história portuguesa seria abolida", justifica.

Heritage Museum Portuguese Settlement in Malacca, Malaysia

"Portuguese" Malacca keep memories in museum 500 years

A museum preserves, three years ago, the Portuguese in Malacca memory corner, the city Afonso de Albuquerque conquered and whose legend still survives 500 years after his death.

The Portuguese descent community of Malacca, which began after the capture of the city by Afonso de Albuquerque in 1511, is to disseminate the memories of his connection to Portugal in a museum that survives volunteering.

Three years ago, Christopher De Mello, along with Jerry Alcantara, decided to take an old museum that had "only pictures" and transform it into an exhibition space of memories that today welcomes people from all over the world.

The Portuguese Settlement Heritage Museum (Heritage Museum of the Village Portuguese, Malacca), as it is known locally, is right in the center of the Portuguese Settlement, a neighborhood about three kilometers from Malacca center that was created in the 1930s for the descendants Portuguese spread across the region.

Among the spoils, with many hundreds of pieces, there are objects and personal collections, such as bottles and photographs, and items purchased or "found in the sea" by fishermen, which can be "Portuguese, Chinese or Indian," said Lusa Christopher De Mello .

After becoming unemployed, the maintenance engineer who now works part-time, found an opportunity to "improve the museum" making use of his varied talents, such as carpentry to assemble exhibitors and communication to tell the stories of the community do not fit in the museum.

It is also he responsible for the wooden boat "La Mar Blossom" (Sea Flower, in Portuguese), which is in the center of the museum to remember the famous ship of the same name which sank in 1511 in the Strait of Malacca, with a immense treasure, which was never found.

Afonso de Albuquerque, whose 500th anniversary of death be marked on Tuesday, is also represented, because he was one of the "first parents of the village."

"It's because of him that we are here today", said Christopher, who feels "uncomfortable" when they tell you that resembles the Malays.

"I'd rather say I look more Portuguese. We here never say we are Malaysians, we say we are Malay-Portuguese," he said, explaining that despite the Portuguese blood already was lost long ago still dominated by lusos surnames in the community about a thousand inhabitants, like "Smith" or "Gomes".

In the museum are furniture, crockery, fishing nets, photographs, historical documents and even wine produced by Christopher himself, an alcoholic drink made from apple to remind say "Port wine".

Lusos traditional costumes offered by Portuguese join similar costumes designed and used by music groups and local dance that disseminate the Portuguese folklore in Malaysia and abroad.

Besides the three exhibition halls, there is still a space that holds dozens of awards earned by people in the community in beauty pageants or Father Christmas or facts in football tournaments during the popular saints.

Among visitors to the museum, which is not always open, there are groups of students from around the country and foreign tourists who come to know the Portuguese Settlement, locally famous for the festival environment at Christmas, Carnival and Popular Saints.

Visitors pay two Malaysian ringgit (0.42 cents) input, an insufficient amount to support the project that needs volunteers for support.

The local government has submitted a proposal to support the museum, but with the condition of taking over the management of the space and pay a salary to the volunteers, something that prosecutors refused.

"I do not want the future to Malaysian history between the Portuguese Settlement. Our Portuguese history would be abolished," he explains.

Request support for Portugal is also seen with some doubts because any such aid would imply the involvement of Malaysian authorities in the museum, he added.

Malacca, which in 2008 was declared World Heritage by UNESCO, is now a heavily tourist town, depicting the history of the various peoples who passed through here.
