Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre, ( Laos, Vietnam ) Lao PDR. - “Carving a Community: The Katu People”. The exhibit is the first in Luang Prabang, the former royal capital of Laos, to highlight the distinct cultural traits and crafts of this ethnic minority group residing in southern Laos and the central highlands of Vietnam.

Recognising the dearth of accessible and accurate information on Lao PDR’s ethnic diversity, the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre (TAEC) was launched in July 2007 to promote understanding of Lao PDR’s ethnic diversity and advocate for the survival and transmission of its cultural heritage.




It is the only independent non-profit museum and resource centre in Lao PDR dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of the traditional arts and lifestyles of the country’s ethnic groups. 


TAEC has won international recognition for its engaging and professional exhibitions, its community outreach, and livelihoods activities. TAEC recognises the responsibility it has to the communities and living cultures it represents, and prioritises linkages to and empowerment of source communities through its exhibitions. Currently, TAEC’s Museum Shop supports supplemental livelihoods for over 500 handicrafts producers and their families, primarily women, in 12 provinces of Lao PDR.

TAEC’s permanent collections include over 400 cultural artefacts from more than 30 of the ethnic groups of Lao PDR, including:

Religious and ceremonial objects

The collections also include video, photos and reference materials.

Katu People of Southern Laos

The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre’snew exhibit is entitled, “Carving a Community: The Katu People”. The exhibit is the first in Luang Prabang, the former royal capital of Laos, to highlight the distinct cultural traits and crafts of this ethnic minority group residing in southern Laos and the central highlands of Vietnam.


Intricate weavings and basketry and bold woodcarving created by the Katu people are highlights of the exhibit. Of special interest is the carved decoration of the Katu communal meetinghouse. Traditionally, the meetinghouse was the focal point of the village, where members of the community gather to carry out important rites, including buffalo sacrifice. Videos of this annual ritual and daily activities allow visitors to witness the folkways of the Katu.

The Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre collaborated with the Institute of Sociological Research of the Lao PDR, the University of Gothenburg-Sweden, and the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology to conduct research and present this exhibit on the culture and lifestyle of this little known group.

Museum of Art, Kochi, Japan. We hold excellent art works by both domestic and foreign artists;

The Museum of Art, Kochi was established in Kochi City in 1993. 


Marc Chagall, expressionists, neo-expressionists, Ishimoto Yasuhiro and other celebrated artists with connections to Kochi Prefecture.

The Museum Hall, with a seating capacity of 399, also functions as a Noh stage.

The hall holds approximately 15 shows a year,with genres ranging from dance, theatre, film, and concert.

In recent years, we have produced performances by various artists connected to Kochi Prefecture,and other uniquely distinguished performing artists from around the world.

Surrounding Environment
It takes approximately 15 minutes by street car from the city center to the Museum of Art, Kochi. In Kochi City, there are several cultural facilities including the Kochi Prefectural Culture Hall, the Kochi City Culture-Plaza CUL-PORT (in 2012, the Light Exercise Room was used), and the Art Zone WARAKOH SOKO (in 2013, “Takogura” was used), whose cooperation is sought in providing rental studios for rehearsals and the creation of works.

History
In considering how to utilize the networks with foreign organizations and artists that the museum has independently created thus far, and how to pursue collaboration with the community against the backdrop of yearly increasing creation projects by domestic artists (related to Kochi Prefecture), the museum launched the Artist-in-Residence Program after winning a grant of the Overseas Dissemination Base Formation Project launched by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2011.

Program Objectives
The Program is designed to give support to artists in various genres so that they will conduct community-based activities by utilizing the networks with foreign organizations and artists that the museum has independently created thus far, developing a network with artists from countries and regions with which the museum has had no relations thus far, and conducting activities making use of the specialty of the museum which has a hall. The purpose of the program is to introduce works that are jointly produced by invited artists, domestic artists and local residents overseas or outside the prefecture.

Museu de Marinha ( Portugal ) renova narrativa dos Descobrimentos. --- Maritime Museum (Portugal) renews narrative of Discovery..

Vão ficar expostas novas caravelas. Novos modelos da caravela latina, criados à luz das mais recentes investigações, vão ser incorporados na exposição da Sala dos Descobrimentos Portugueses do Museu de Marinha, em Lisboa, que terá, a partir de maio, "uma narrativa mais percetível e moderna". 





Contactado pela agência Lusa, o primeiro-tenente Bruno Gonçalves Neves, chefe do Serviço de Investigação do Departamento de Museologia do Museu de Marinha, revelou que este é um projeto faseado de renovação daquela emblemática sala do museu, instalado no Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. "A narrativa vai ser apresentada de forma mais acessível, a iluminação e os suportes museológicos serão renovados, e haverá novas peças, entre elas um navio mercante do período medieval e novos modelos de caravelas latinas de dois e três mastros", indicou. 

As embarcações foram criadas nas oficinas da Marinha, que tutela o museu, e resultaram das mais recentes investigações sobre navegação realizadas por diversas entidades, nomeadamente universidades do país. 

A Sala dos Descobrimentos, uma das mais procuradas pelos cerca de 150 mil visitantes que o Museu de Marinha recebe anualmente, possui uma centena de peças, além dos modelos de navios da época, também instrumentos náuticos, mapas, pintura, objetos religiosos, armas e porcelana chinesa. 

O Museu de Marinha - cujos antecedentes remontam ao século XIX - abriu oficialmente em 1962 nas alas norte e poente do Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, junto do qual se construiu, mais tarde, um pavilhão para exposição das galeotas e um complexo destinado à direção e serviços.

Maritime Museum (Portugal) renews narrative of Discovery.

They will be exposed new caravels. New models of Latin caravel, created in the light of the latest investigations, will be incorporated into the exhibition room of the Portuguese Discoveries Navy Museum in Lisbon, which will, as of May, "a more noticeable and modern narrative."

Contacted by Lusa, First Lieutenant Bruno Gonçalves Neves, head of the Investigation Service of the Department of Museology of the Museu de Marinha, revealed that this is a phased renovation project that flagship room of the museum, located at the Jeronimos Monastery. "The narrative will be presented in a more accessible way, the lighting and the museum stands will be renovated, and there will be new parts, including a merchant ship of the medieval period and new models of Latin caravels two and three masts," he said.

The vessels were created in the workshops of the Navy, overseeing the museum, and resulted from the latest research on navigation conducted by several entities, including the country's universities.

The Hall of Discoveries, one of the most sought after by about 150 thousand visitors the Navy Museum receives annually, has a hundred pieces, in addition to models of ships was also nautical instruments, maps, painting, religious objects, weapons and Chinese porcelain.

The Navy Museum - whose history goes back to the nineteenth century - officially opened in 1962 in the north and west wings of the Jeronimos Monastery, from which was built later, a pavilion for exhibition of sand eels and a complex for the direction and services.

All About Apple Museum, Italy.

Nel 2002, in seguito al ritrovamento di un considerevole patrimonio di computer Apple appartenenti a un magazzino dismesso della ditta Briano Computer di Savona (SV), Alessio Ferraro – ideatore, attuale presidente e uno dei fondatori del museo – ottenne in regalo questo materiale dal nuovo gestore dell’azienda (Pierangelo Fazio), il quale ne cedette in blocco l’utilizzo, gratuitamente.


Dopo una prima reazione emozionale (si trattava del primo embrione di un patrimonio incalcolabile, dalla nascita del personal computer del 1976 ai giorni nostri), Ferraro decise, in collaborazione e immediata adesione al progetto dell’amico William Ghisolfo, di non destinare detto materiale all’uso personale e al collezionismo privato ma, riprendendo una vecchia idea di William, di mettere in piedi un AMUG (Apple Macintosh User Group, gruppo di utenti Apple diffusi in tutto il mondo,) e di farne un museo pubblico.


Dai primi mesi del 2002, lavorando a ritmo serrato – notte e giorno – Alessio e William, in gran segreto, prepararono una inaugurazione a sorpresa coinvolgendo gli amici accomunati dalla passione per il computer, il vecchio proprietario (Ettore Briano) e il nuovo gestore (Pierangelo Fazio) del negozio di Savona ‘Briano Multimedia’ che diede origine alla prima donazione, inaugurando la prima sede PRIVATA del museo, nella fattispecie l’abitazione dei genitori di Alessio Ferraro.

Da quel momento, decidemmo di dare un criterio di ufficialità all’idea del museo, anche per poter attingere a finanziamenti in modo più trasparente e per invogliare gli eventuali futuri donatori a rilasciare altri computer ‘storici’, costituendoci in Associazione con tanto di atto costitutivo e statuto. I fondatori furono: Paolo Arrigucci, Marco Canavese, Alessio Ferraro, William Ghisolfo, Fabrizio Pesce e Bruno Zenoni.

In conseguenza della costituzione come associazione, e alla pubblicazione in internet del nostro sito le offerte e riconoscimenti ebbero una crescita esponenziale, decuplicando il patrimonio iniziale del museo.Il Comune di Quiliano, nella persona del sindaco Nicola Isetta si dimostrò sensibile all’iniziativa rilasciando una sede ad uso indeterminato per il museo. Questa sede, un’ex falegnameria all’interno delle Scuole Medie ‘A. Peterlin di Quiliano (SV) e gestita per oltre trent’anni dal docente di applicazioni tecniche Pierluigi Quassolo, venne completamente ristrutturata, in quanto era nostro volere che le macchine esposte fossero funzionanti e manipolabili dal visitatore, caso unico in un museo di questo genere. Al termine dei lavori, il museo venne pubblicamente inaugurato il 14/5/2005.

Subito dopo l’apertura avvenne evento straordinario, inimmaginabile e imprevisto: Apple America, Cupertino, California, ci telefonò (letteralmente) e lasciò un messaggio in segreteria. Subito dopo, ci venne recapitata una lettera autografa firmata da un Senior Marketing manager della Apple (Brett Murray), che si complimentava per l’inaugurazione del museo (da noi affatto pubblicizzata verso Apple America, fu una sorpresa totale), e dove ci invitava a raggiungerli in California per visitare la sede Apple ed essere celebrati come Museo Apple più grande del mondo. Il riconoscimento della casa madre ebbe un effetto iperbolico di pubblicità, al punto che decine di macchine nuove vennero donate ulteriormente al museo, e numerose riviste e siti del settore celebrarono con noi questo momento magico.

A Gennaio del 2006 un manipolo di ardimentosi (Alessio Ferraro, William Ghisolfo, Roberto Odino, Letizia Tomaselli, Emanuele Donetti, Marco Mioli) si recarono presso l’Apple Campus di Cupertino in California, e al nostro ritorno dagli States iniziammo anche ad effettuare alcuni corsi informatici (base ed avanzati), in collaborazione con l’università degli Studi di Savona (Unisabazia). Nello stesso anno All About Apple ottenne il riconoscimento ONLUS.

Al nucleo iniziale dei fondatori si aggiunsero nuove forze, come Carlo Becchi, Paolo Bianchi, Bruno Corvi, Alberto Crosio, Domenico Capuzzo, Danilo Olivieri, Roberto Odino, Alessandro Maggiolo, Andrea Palermo (attuale vicepresidente), Claudio Monchiero, Monica Brondi ed altre persone che contribuiscono quotidianamente a far funzionare il difficile meccanismo del museo, dalla gestione del sito, alla raccolta e catalogazione del materiale donato, ai rapporti con il pubblico.

Significativo è stato il contributo di Andrea Palermo e Irene Murrau con la loro Tesi di Laurea dedicata all’All About Apple Museum, liberamente consultabile online.

Oggi il museo è in fase di trasferimento verso una nuova sede, in collaborazione con la Fondazione De Mari, dall’esposizione Quilianese verso il Polo Universitario di Savona, in un nuovo spazio più ampio e maggiormente fruibile, un contesto aperto, facilmente raggiungibile da tutti e frequentato dalle forze nuove degli studenti universitari; nel 2013 il museo riaprirà al pubblico, e continuerà la sua ‘missione’ organizzando periodicamente giornate intere di apertura al pubblico (‘open day’) e partecipando ad esposizioni temporanee in vari comuni d’Italia, per rendere fruibile tutto il materiale accumulato e poter avere una maggiore affluenza di pubblico.

Il Museo All About Apple, nato l’11 Maggio 2002, attualmente è il più fornito museo Apple del mondo contenente praticamente quasi tutta la produzione di personal computer, periferiche, accessori, prototipi Apple dagli albori del 1976 fino ai giorni nostri.

Le macchine esposte raccontano la nascita, l’evoluzione, la trasformazione dell’informatica personale – inventata da Apple, con la particolarità che il visitatore può usare tutti i pezzi esposti, accesi e funzionanti: unico caso in tutto il mondo in un museo di questo genere.


Nel catalogo del museo sono contenuti più di 7000 pezzi, tra cui 987 personal computer apple e 142 non-apple (sono macchine dell’epoca pre ms-dos: Commodore, Atari, Olivetti… per meglio spiegare l’epoca pionieristica degli anni ’70), 244 monitor, 152 stampanti, 1330 periferiche minori (tastiere, mouse, floppy drive, dischi rigidi, accessori…), 1706 manuali, 1108 brochures, 144 poster, 951 titoli di software in cd-rom e floppy disk, 227 packages, oltre 200 spille e moltissimi accessori. Un patrimonio, il cui unico limite è lo spazio che attualmente abbiamo a disposizione.

The Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem

Making Science for All

The Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem is an informal cultural and educational institution that presents exhibitions consisting of interactive exhibits on subjects of science and technology, and integrates these exhibits into a context through a wide range of educational activities.

The goals of the museum are to increase interest among the general public in science and technology in the world around us, to promote excellency in sciences among youth, and to present science and technology as an integral part of human culture.




Science is a common language that disregards physical borders, cultural and religious differences and enables dialogue among participants with a common interest and diverse backgrounds.

The museum was opened to the public in its present location in the summer of 1992. The creation of the museum is the result of an initiative taken by Professor Peter Hillman, the institution’s founding director.

The establishment of the museum was made possible through close collaboration with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Jerusalem Foundation and through a generous donation from the Bloomfield family in Canada.

The museum’s overall plan includes several wings, an Imax Theater and a Science Garden. The Museum’s first two wings were built by the Jerusalem Foundation - 5,000 sqm in area that are primarily used as a series of display halls for the museum’s exhibitions. A section of the first wing has been set-aside for pre-school visitors. Two floors of the Museum’s second wing were opened to the public in the summer of 2001. They add several exhibit workshop areas, an equipped resource center and a state of the art multi-media auditorium that provides a facility for demonstrations, dramas, films and conferences. This wing was built thanks to an additional donation from the Bloomfield family and with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Cellcom Ltd and the Jerusalem Foundation.

Since the opening, the museum has attracted over 4,000,000 visitors from all parts of Israel. A third of these visitors have been students and teachers.

The Bloomfield Science Museum is an independent nonprofit institute, which operates under the joint auspice of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Jerusalem Foundation.
