Ameaçado de ser extinto, o Museu de Biologia Prof. Mello Leitão, Espírito Santo, Brasil. --- Threatened to be extinct, Prof. Biology Museum Mello Leitao, Espírito Santo, Brazil.

Threatened to be extinct, Prof. Biology Museum Mello Leitao, Espírito Santo, Brazil.

The only natural history museum of the Holy Spirit, Prof. Biology Museum Mello Leitao, an institution with great support from the national and international scientific community, is threatened to be extinct and have their assets sold.

The alert is the naturalist Augusto Ruschi family, Patron of Brazil Ecology and founder of MBML in 1949.

Far beyond what has been discussed and dealt with bureaucratically in Brasilia and published in the press and on social networks, linking the museum to the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTI) hides deeper and more threatening issues.

The transfer link of the Ministry of Culture MCTI is an old demand of the Museum Friends. But how such a transfer has been conducted, it has not taken into account the need to preserve the identity, history and the Museum's own collection.

The turmoil started slowly, without anyone might realize, in 2010, with the approval of the law creating the National Institute of the Atlantic Forest (INMA). "There already is extinguished the museum's name and status and with it, its history, 67, is thrown down.

You cutting extinguishes an institution, "says biologist Piero Angeli Ruschi, son of Augusto Ruschi. He created a petition asking for help to save the museum, which warns of the "irresponsible" conduct of the binding process with the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The law has not yet been regulated, which has generated a lot of sad disorders, leaving the headless museum since April and late bills of water, energy and security services, cleaning and reception, causing unthinkable closing of the open house, the first time in its history, for long days during the month of June. The regulations do not, however, also opens the possibility that the process is stalled.

By definition, museums are testimony to the perpetuity of humanity and therefore can not cease to exist. The INMA should harbor with the Biology Museum Mello Leitão without its museum status was abolished to make way for Institute status. Maintaining institutional perspective (historical identity of MBML) should be considered in the bond process to MCTI, "says Piero in an open letter that begins to be disseminated among the scientific community, friends Museum and capixaba delegation in Congress.

"Institutional health Mello Leitão can not depend on the creation of an institute. No! The health of the Mello Leitão can only rely on his own! "Calls biologist.

PhD in Zoology at the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (MN / UFRJ), Piero never departed completely from MBML. The physical distance, to study biology, master's and doctorate, did not prevent his research relationship associated with Mello Leitao. But almost prevented him from seeing the trap that one of the living legacy of his father was being involved.

Awakened in time, he heads a joint to prevent the regulation of the law that created the INMA, at least the way it is. "We are working on the failure of this negotiation, including made by people related to the Movement in Defense of INMA - MoveINMA. More than failures even see how incompetence, "sighs Piero. "How can anyone want the extinction of Mello Leitao?" Undignified up.

And it states that the purpose of this joint that starts within the Ruschi family, is to clarify the facts to the legal and political measures are taken. "As the truth comes out, senators, deputies, scientists and people go to know the truth, that position themselves and help save the Mello Leitão, the heritage of him who was the Patron of Brazil Ecology" summons.
