The boutique, responsible for bringing the designs of Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Issey Miyake and others to Hong Kong, held a party with top designers and an immersive show.

Fashion designers Dries Van Noten, Rick Owens, Phillip Lim and Haider Ackermann recently helped Hong Kong’s Joyce boutique celebrate 46 years in fashion.

Founded by Joyce Ma in 1971, the boutique in the city’s Central business district introduced high-end European brands such as Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss and Dolce & Gabbana, to the city. In the 1980s, Ma brought Japanese brands Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto to Hong Kong.

In addition to a party the designers attended, and related events, Joyce held an immersive fashion exhibition, “The Golden Needle”, overseen by James Seager of British theatre troupe Les Enfants Terribles and production designer Joseph Bennett and featuring outfits chosen by fashion stylist Olivier Chatenet.

Bennett is no stranger to immersive theatre. He designed a production in 2010 for Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with theatre company Punchdrunk for a store opening in London.

That exhibition whisked guests off to an abandoned office depot, where they met different characters – a skimpy showgirl, a Mongolian prince and a magician. In 2014, when Burberry staged a theatrical show in a shipyard in Shanghai, dancers performed in the brand’s signature trench coats.

Khachkars, tombstones. --- Khachkars, lápides

Khachkars, tombstones

According to the Internet portal Ermenihaber, in Turkey, in the wilaya of Tekirdag (Rodosto historical) near Melkara during road construction works eight hachkarov- Armenian tombstones were found.

Assistant District Head Malkara Ahmed Nazif Baldzhen reported that eight found khachkars found Armenian inscriptions.

"Can such gravestones much we do not know - he told reporters. - In the area of ongoing construction work. When they are completed, all found khachkars we will give in the "House of Arts" - concluded Baldzhen.

The find is particularly interesting for us because Tekirdag Governorate is considered part of the historical Eastern Thrace, ie European land Turkey, constituting 5% of its territory. In ancient times, Thrace was conquered by the Roman Empire (the legendary gladiator Spartacus was born in Thrace), and then was part of the Byzantine Empire.

Today, the historical land of Thrace are part of Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey. Finally, as part of the Turkish Empire Thrace, largely populated by Slavs and Greeks, it was fixed only in XIV- XV centuries, and so on earth. N. Eastern Thrace remained within Turkey after the Treaty of Lausanne in 1922.

These lands are not part of historic Armenia, and the presence of a cemetery with tombstones -hachkarami are further evidence of the constant presence of Armenians in these lands, a strong, strong national community there since the days of the Byzantine Empire. In 1912 there lived: 26,020 Greeks, 20,775 Turks, 13,000 Armenians and 2,500 Jews.
