Forte Orange, located at the southern entrance of the Santa Cruz Canal, where Portuguese colonization began in Northeast Brazil in 1516, was built in 1631 by the Dutch, who invaded Pernambuco, Brazil, in search of the wealth promoted by the mercantile activity of the sugar cane.

Returned to the population after the investment of R $ 350,000 from the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) to carry out a series of restoration and rehabilitation works and actions, Forte Orange, located on Itamaracá Island, north coast of Pernambuco, has already received more than 130 thousand visitors.

The Forte, which is in an area of great historical and cultural importance and with lush landscape, was listed by IPHAN in 1938 and in the 1970s it was the object of restoration based on archaeological, historical and architectural research. The IPHAN in Pernambuco has made possible its maintenance in order to preserve the memory of the Dutch and Portuguese presence and the importance of this military building for Brazilian historiography.

Located at the southern entrance to the Santa Cruz Channel, where Portuguese colonization began in Northeast Brazil in 1516, it was built in 1631 by the Dutch, who invaded Pernambuco in search of the wealth promoted by the commercial activity of sugarcane. The work is one of the marks of the defense system of the Brazilian coast and in 1654, after the defeat of the Dutch by the Portuguese Crown, the Fort was abandoned, remaining in ruins. It was recovered by the Portuguese in 1696 resuming its military function.

The interventions

Between 2011 and 2012, aiming at the reopening of Fort Orange to the public, IPHAN performed several works, such as roofing; Construction of wooden walkways for visitors to circulate on the fort's terraces; Implementation of internal signage and exhibition panel on archaeological researches carried out, as well as projects for restoration and requalification of Fort Orange and its surroundings. In addition to the actions already taken, in the coming years, the goals are worthy of the historical and cultural value of the fortress for Brazil: in the short term interventions are planned with resources in the order of 10 million reais from Prodetur.

The architectural restoration of the Fort Orange building, considering the building itself as a museological element; The recovery of the square of arms, locating the vestiges of the foundations of the Dutch fort (found during the archaeological investigations); Installation of exhibition rooms on the history of the fortification, including permanent exhibition on the Dutch Fort; Are examples of projects already developed. In the medium term, it is expected to invest some 20 million reais in works to contain the sea's advance and improve access, with the duplication of the highway access and construction of a wooden bridge over the mangrove, as well as the interconnection of With the implantation of the Trail of the Dutch linking the fortification to Vila Velha, passing by the Church of São Paulo and the ruins of the house where Father Tenório, a character of the Pernambuco Revolution of 1817, was housed.

As intervenções

Discoveries have been hidden for decades in the Church of Our Lord of Bonfim in Pirenópolis, Goiás, Brazil.

Pirenópolis won another attraction. After three years of restoration, the Church of Our Lord of Bonfim will be reopened to religious celebrations and tourism in one week. In addition to all the restored and painted structure, the almost 260-year-old building, built by slaves, had the most beautiful and beautiful details fully recovered. Among them, decorative paintings on the side walls of the main altar and much of the wooden ceiling, covered over decades by mass and white paint.

With the restoration, the Church of the Bonfim happens to be the richest temple of Goiás, from the artistic point of view. Since the fire of the Igreja Matriz de Pirenópolis in 2002, the municipality 140km away from Brasilia had no more temple with all the original features. In Goiás Velho, the other historical city of the state, there is also no church with as many ornaments as Bonfim.

This was the first complete reform of the Church of Our Lord of Bonfim. In 2005, it underwent structural works, which included the restoration of the facade and the painting inside. For lack of money, the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) did not restore the art elements. At the cost of R $ 600,000, the work began in 2010. At first, scraping the plaster and the white paint inside the building, technicians hired by Iphan had the pleasant surprise.

Logo no começo, raspando o reboco e a tinta branca do interior do edifício, técnicos contratados pelo Iphan tiveram a grata surpresa.
