The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced a bold partnership last Friday (March 31). The institution, located in New York and known for one of the most important collections of European painting, will make available some of its rooms for rent through Airbnb.

The statement comes as the museum faces a $ 10 million budget deficit and there is also an effort to align with the cultural changes brought about by digital and collaborative culture.
In an interview with Hyperallergic, chairman Daniel Weiss said: "The Met has one of the richest collections of historical interiors and it's time to monetize it. Imagine waking up in the exquisite 18th-century Damascus room and then strolling through the galleries of Art from the ancient Near East for a quiet breakfast in the Great Hall Balcony Bar before other visitors have entered the museum. We hope this kind of experience will give our audience a more intimate appreciation of our collection. "
The partnership, officially dubbed "The Metbnb," will require extensive collaboration between the museum's conservation, security, cleaning and restoration team to ensure a safe and comfortable tenant stay.
Prices, unlike the proposal, have little to do with the gratuitousness and solidarity of the digital culture. Values range from $ 1,300 to $ 5,000.

O Metropolitan Museum of Art anunciou na última sexta (31/03) uma parceria ousada. A instituição, localizada em Nova York e conhecida por uma das mais importantes coleções de pintura europeia, vai disponibilizar alguns de seus cômodos para aluguel por meio do Airbnb.

O comunicado ocorre em um momento em que o museu enfrenta um déficit orçamentário de US$ 10 milhões e há também esforços para se alinhar às transformações culturais provocadas pela cultura digital e colaborativa.
Em entrevista ao site Hyperallergic, o presidente da instituição Daniel Weiss, disse: "O Met tem uma das mais ricas coleções de interiores históricos e é hora de monetizar isso.
