The temptation of Eve d'Autun is exhibited at the Louvre Museum

The temptation of Eve, bas-relief of the cathedral of Autun, just restored, is to be seen in the Louvre museum, in Paris. A major work of the Romanesque art whose history is traced by Pierre Wilpart, Fanny Borius, Anthony Borlot and Mathieu Benito with Brigitte Maurice-Chabard, Curator and Director of the Rolin Museum of Autun; Pierre-Yves Le Pogam, curator of the sculpture department of the Louvre - France 3 Burgundy

It is an icon with an extraordinary suggestive force

This is what Annamaria Ducci, art historian, Pisa says of sculpture: "Eve is represented in a complex way, as indicated by her unusual posture and the gesture of her hands: probably turned towards a lost Adam , She picks up, behind her, the fruit forbidden to the tree where the serpent is still entwined, while her right hand folds on her cheek. This isolated fragment has become an icon with an extraordinary suggestive force, which still arouses immediate "sympathy" in the viewer. Through important formal and iconographic innovations, the sculptor has created a unique image, with a complex interpretation; The very varied readings that this sculpture inspired for almost two centuries - stylistic, allegorical-religious, historical-social. Indeed, the Eve of Autun testifies to the problematic characteristic of the exegesis of medieval imagery, whose meaning is by definition multiple: physical, allegorical, moral, spiritual. "

The sculpture has recovered a beauty recently

In order to live up to the event of its exhibition at the Louvre, "Tentation d'Eve" was recently restored, with funds raised thanks to participatory financing. Approximately 30,000 euros were required for this restoration, which began with a photo shoot: the aim was to evaluate the alterations and, for the specialists, to study the traces of tools and the implementation of the lintel within the portal . A micro-abrasion "a scrub somehow" and then a thorough cleaning have restored its brilliance. His left hand was replaced, the two blocks that compose it were realigned and the original polychromy restored by graphic and numerical supports.

An eventful history

Sculpted around 1130 by the artist Gislebertus, the "Temptation of Eve" was positioned on the lintel of the lateral portal of the Cathedral of Autun. Eve was facing Adam. But in 1766, part of the portal was demolished. Adam, Eve, the devil ... everything disappears. It is only a century later that it is found in a wall of an autunoise house.

"The architect Jean Roidot-Houdaille bought the lintel, and when he died in 1910, his heirs sold it to the Société Eduenne (as explained by the Rolin museum officials at the launch of the participatory financing campaign) A learned society in Austria). But the Beautiful remains coveted: the Louvre wants it, an American amateur too. Finally, the work returns to the collections of the Société Eduenne in 1935 in the Hotel Rolin, future Rolin Museum. --- The Historical Museum and Porcelain became the castle of Nyon.

(24 heures).

Culture In a spirit of simplification, the institution has been renamed with discretion. A change that could appeal to others.

"Exceptional closure of the Château de Nyon." In its statement yesterday to the media announcing works to come in the emblematic monument, the city no longer makes mention of the Historical Museum and porcelains (see opposite). The communication service did not forget. The institution has simply changed its name.

"Chateau de Nyon", simple and logical

"The name Historical Museum and porcelain was of another age. It was outdated. It was also not the most attractive, "insists Monique Voélin, Head of the Department of Culture of Nyon, who also explains the difficulty of visitors to remember the exact name of the institution. For the sake of simplicity, the change was accepted by the Municipality to come into force last summer, with discretion. No matter, the term Château de Nyon is almost unnoticed by the general public, as it seems logical.

The collections, preserved in the walls of the monument built in the 12th century, have not been turned upside down. Visitors can still discover the precious porcelain produced in the 17th century in Nyon, as well as objects and portraits telling the history of the city.

Nyon Region Tourism was consulted and showed support for change. The presence of "castle" in the name of the establishment plays a magnet for travelers. "I am rather satisfied with the simplification chosen, notes the director Didier Miéville. Now, however, we must pay particular attention to communicating what to visit inside the monument. "This is confirmed by the curator of the place.

Create a museum hub

A simplification that could only be a beginning. Monique Voélin already imagines the future in this direction. "If the extension of the Museum of Lake Geneva is realized, which we hope very much, there is a reflection that will be conducted to possibly bring together the three museums Nyonnais under the same name. And thus create a unique identity in the form of a museum hub. "

In the extension, for which the Leman Museum Foundation is seeking funds, a center of competence will be created since the three curators will have offices on the same site. A proximity that should lead to new synergies between the three entities. They will nevertheless retain their independence. (24 hours)

(24 horas)

The Sabugalian people guard ancient knowledge that constitute an intangible historical patrimony that the Town Hall of Sabugal can and must preserve.
Procession in the Sabugal - it is imperative to recover the old memories

The elders of our society know stories, proverbs, riddles, recipes, customs and traditions, which in many cases will be lost with the disappearance of the people who keep them.

It is important to preserve this intangible heritage. To do so will be necessary to create a program to raise these values of our people, a long and rigorous mission, which requires organization, planning, persistence and interaction with those who hold these valuable knowledge.

The Municipality of Oeiras, in Greater Lisbon, presided over by the Sabugalian Paulo Vistas, can be considered as a good example of what it is to work for the preservation of the history of a people. It created a website and launched a challenge for people over 55: to participate in a collection of life stories to preserve the memory and identity of the county. Those interested in participating in the project will be accompanied by two journalists who help them retrieve memories and stories, shape them and share them with others via the Internet.

The municipality of Sabugal is also full of life stories that must be collected and preserved, since they are part of our immaterial heritage.

For this collection can be used orality, a more expeditious way of approaching the elders. In collection sessions, in the municipal library, in the nursing homes, in the associations, the oldest ones can tell their experiences of the past and with that to enhance their citizenship, self-esteem, appreciation of their lives and make a valuable contribution To the society in which we live.

In collaboration with the municipal schools, the Sabugal City Council will be able to carry out this demanding and necessary work. It is necessary to define the partnerships, to find out who the project is, to establish a plan, to have the necessary resources, to create a script with the steps to be followed in each interview.
Once the interviews have been completed, it will be necessary to work each interview, giving the appropriate form to put them to the public enjoyment.

It is always with satisfaction that we see our modest and unpretentious proposals taking shape and becoming a reality. After insistently proposing the need for the Chamber to develop the so-called "active aging", it was with great pleasure that I checked the recent conduct of interactive meetings between the elderly and the children, with them moving to the homes to live with the Older. Congratulations to the Municipality and the associations involved in this beneficial activity.
