Alessandro Goppion, the Italian who protects Monalisa and the jewels of the English Crown.

The Italian Alessandro Goppion is passionate about art and design. The businessman who is in Social and Political Sciences and spent hours at his father's factory, engineer Nino, is now best known for his showcases that protect and preserve great works of art in more than 300 museums around the world.

The Italian Alessandro Goppion

The father's company, founded in 1952 and known for years as the displays produced for the food industry group Ferrero, gained a new direction with Sandro's entry, or would be Goppion Knight, since he had been awarded Order of the Merit of the work of Italian President Sergio Mattarella. "I turned my passion into business," smiles the Italian who spends much of his time in meetings at the factory in Trezzano sul Naviglio, near Milan, traveling and visiting future clients.

The transition to the cultural sector took place more than 35 years ago. Alessandro Goppion, along with his team, developed true glass coffers, which have won the trust of museums and art galleries. The first success was with the vetrines created for the Bargello Museum in Florence. From there, the name Goppion became synonymous with security.

The list of works of art protected by the Italian company is vast: Monalisa and Venus de Milo, in the Louvre Museum, and the Jewels of the Queen of England, Victoria and Albert Museum, to name a few. "In the United States, for example, we were called upon to create the vetrines of the National Museum of African American History, of Washington, dedicated to African-American culture," recalls the businessman.

The secret of the intelligent windows of the Italian industrial group is not only in the quality and thickness of glass but also in research, experimentation and innovation. A job that requires patience, experience and meticulousness when it comes to carrying out the projects. Not to mention control and maintenance. Today, these transparent safes are not only bullet-proof, they are technological, intelligent.

With a tablet you can remotely control humidity, internal temperature, technical faults and even protect against tremors. Architects, technicians and engineers are the tireless guardian angels of works of art exhibited in museums, galleries or in homes.

Much of Goppion's clientele is outside Italian territory. England, France and the United States followed by the Middle East make up the list of patrons. "In Italy, our audience is still small compared to other European countries, but our vetrines protect sculptures and paintings at the Egyptian Museum in Turin, for example in the Grand Duomo Museum in Florence," he says.

"The big problem is the bureaucracy and the delay in the public bids, so we focus on the foreign market, and maybe one day we will be framing - safely - works of art in Brazil," says Alessandro Goppion, who at the time Vacancies, during their travels, prefer a good restaurant to a museum. "It is in the gastronomy that one enters knows the culture and art of a people". What will he say after savoring the feijoada in Brazil?

The Gemeente Museum Den Haag in The Hague, The Netherlands, brings together some of the most iconic pieces created by Hubert de Givenchy for his longtime muse, Audrey Hepburn.

With a long career of almost half a century, Hubert de Givenchy retired in 1995, leaving that year the home he founded in 1952 - today under the creative direction of Riccardo Tisci - with a rich historical heritage. One of the most remarkable chapters was the relationship that during the second half of the 20th century had with Audrey Hepburn. The result of this creative partnership is now displayed at the Gemeente Museum Den Haag in Holland - a country where Audrey lived for part of her childhood. To see until March 26.

Entitled "Hubert de Givenchy: To Audrey with Love", the exhibition includes dozens of pieces of the French creator used by the Hollywood star - some of which had never before been shown to the public.

The relationship between Hepburn and Givenchy was, according to him, quoted by the Telegraph, "a kind of marriage". In addition to sharing a taste for simple and elegant style, have developed over the years great friendship. They worked together from the early 1950s until Hepburn's death. Givenchy designed clothes for Audrey to use in her daily life, but also in events like the 1954 Oscars, when she accepted the distinction for the role of Princess Ann in Vacations in Rome, in which she wore a floral white dress - and in films such as Sabrina and Luxury Doll (Breakfast at Tiffany's).

On display are still sketches of pieces, drawings, photographs and stills from movies. The creator participated actively in the process of curating the exhibition, personally selecting some of his favorite pieces. "It's the first time we've been able to put together so many models used by Audrey Hepburn. It is exciting to see all these dresses that one day we forget, "says Givenchy in the presentation video. "The exhibition is a trip through your wardrobe. It is a tribute to its eternal beauty," he concludes.

A part of the exhibition focuses exclusively on the partnership between muse and creator; And another in the role that Audrey has played since 1988 as UNICEF's goodwill ambassador. Affected directly by the Second War during her childhood, Audrey was particularly sensitive to the children's suffering. He traveled around the world, including countries such as Ethiopia, to raise public awareness about problems related to education and health.

In 1991, when Hubert Givenchy was only a few years away from retirement, it was Audrey Hepburn who paid tribute to his favorite creator, attending a retrospective event of his career - which according to Style.com was one of the main events of the season , With the presence of iconic figures such as Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix.

"All women want to feel beautiful and I feel pretty when I wear their clothes, they give me confidence," said Hepburn at the time. The timeless beauty of Givenchy's pieces - in tune with the aesthetic of the actress herself - gave birth to a lasting relationship. "She's always worked with integrity, even when fashion has become a little weird and out of time. And here's the proof: it could be used today. And I'm very proud of my friend, "he said with a smile.

The truth is that, more than two decades past, the pieces maintain their contemporaneity. The exhibition will be on display until 26 March and will then be adapted to other galleries in Switzerland and France. The next stop will be the Fondation Bolle in Morges, Switzerland, from 19 May to 17 September. A book on the exhibition was also created, illustrated in Dutch and in English, and another coloring book for children.
