Metropolitan Museum of Art partners with Airbnb. --- Metropolitan Museum of Art faz parceria com Airbnb.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced a bold partnership last Friday (March 31). The institution, located in New York and known for one of the most important collections of European painting, will make available some of its rooms for rent through Airbnb.

The statement comes as the museum faces a $ 10 million budget deficit and there is also an effort to align with the cultural changes brought about by digital and collaborative culture.

In an interview with Hyperallergic, chairman Daniel Weiss said: "The Met has one of the richest collections of historical interiors and it's time to monetize it. Imagine waking up in the exquisite 18th-century Damascus room and then strolling through the galleries of Art from the ancient Near East for a quiet breakfast in the Great Hall Balcony Bar before other visitors have entered the museum. We hope this kind of experience will give our audience a more intimate appreciation of our collection. "

The partnership, officially dubbed "The Metbnb," will require extensive collaboration between the museum's conservation, security, cleaning and restoration team to ensure a safe and comfortable tenant stay.

Prices, unlike the proposal, have little to do with the gratuitousness and solidarity of the digital culture. Values range from $ 1,300 to $ 5,000.

Metropolitan Museum of Art faz parceria com Airbnb.

The Hollywood Science Museum in Anaheim wants to raise funds with wax dolls from the Enterprise's original Star Trek crew.

Want to take pictures and "meet" the "Star Trek" characters? As of this Friday (31), they will be exhibited in Anaheim, California, at the Hollywood Science Fiction Museum, which recently acquired the wax dolls of all seven Enterprise crew members in the original series, including Captain Kirk .

The pieces, and a replica of the Enterprise spacecraft, also in full size, passed a decade stored. They were initially created for the Movieland Wax Museum, a tourist attraction in the city of Buena Park, California. Ten years ago, the place, which no longer exists, auctioned their belongings.

"As far as we knew, the dolls were lost," said museum manager Huston Huddleston. "It could be in a rich person's house and never be seen again, or destroyed ... no one knew."

In fact, the intrepid crew had been rescued.

At the museum auction, Steve and Lori Greenthal paid about $ 40,000 to have the Kirk, Spock, Sulu, Uhura, Dr. "Bones" McCoy, Chekov and Scot dolls in their homes. They wanted to keep the whole set.

"We took them home and put them in our dining room," Lori told the Orange County Register. But, according to the couple, Steve did not like the way the eyes looked "very real".

"We put paper bags over their heads," he said.

Three months ago, the owners donated the ensemble and its wax crew to the museum, which ran a campaign to pay the roughly $ 14,000 needed to cover restoration costs.

The non-permanent, non-profit museum plans to take them on a five-year US tour that will begin later this year in Los Angeles, Huddleston said.

The tour will help raise money to give the museum a home in North Hollywood.

Meanwhile, Spock and McCoy will be featured at the Wondercon convention in Anaheim, which starts next Friday (31). Huddleston called the figures "true pieces of art":

"I'm living a nerdy dream."

The Lady with the Unicorn: To my only desire (Cl. 10834) - Mini

The Cluny hotel, built at the end of the 15th century, houses the famous drapery of La Dame à la Unicorn and one of the richest European collections, offering a complete panorama of medieval art, from the 5th century to the beginning of the 16th century: goldsmithery, stained glass, sculptures ..

The Lady and the Unicorn (French: La Dame à la licorne) is the modern title given to a series of six tapestries woven in Flanders from wool and silk, from designs ("cartoons") drawn in Paris around 1500. The set, on display in the Musée national du Moyen Âge (former Musée de Cluny) in Paris, is often considered one of the greatest works of art of the Middle Ages in Europe.

Five of the tapestries are commonly interpreted as depicting the five senses – taste, hearing, sight, smell, and touch. The sixth displays the words "À mon seul désir". The tapestry's meaning is obscure, but has been interpreted as representing love or understanding. Each of the six tapestries depicts a noble lady with the unicorn on her left and a lion on her right; some include a monkey in the scene.

The pennants, as well as the armour of the Unicorn and Lion in the tapestry bear the arms of the sponsor, Jean Le Viste, a powerful nobleman in the court of King Charles VII. However, a very recent study of the heraldry appears to lend credence to another hypothesis - previously dismissed - that the real sponsor of the tapestry is Antoine II Le Viste (1470-1534), a descendant of the younger branch of the Le Viste family and an important figure at the court of Charles VIII, Louis XII and François I.

The tapestries are created in the style of mille-fleurs (meaning: "thousand flowers").

The tapestries were rediscovered in 1841 by Prosper Mérimée in Boussac castle (owned at the time by the subprefect of the Creuse) where they had been suffering damage from their storage conditions. In 1844 the novelist George Sand saw them and brought public attention to the tapestries in her works at the time (most notably in her novel Jeanne), in which she correctly dated them to the end of the fifteenth century, using the ladies' costumes for reference.

Nevertheless, the artefacts continued to be threatened by damp and mould until 1863, when they were brought to the Thermes de Cluny in Paris. Careful conservation has restored them nearly to their former glory.
