Korea, happy 2018. Happy New Year! - Coréia, feliz 2018. Feliz Ano Novo! -

Korean New Year is typically a family holiday. The Korean New Year is also known as "Seollal" (설날). The three-day holiday is used by many to return to their hometowns to visit their parents and other relatives, where they perform an ancestral ritual called charye. The three days are the day of, the day before, and the after

Koreans not only travel within the country, but around the world, as well. Many Koreans travel from overseas to visit their families for this annual holiday. Since it is one of the few times families may be able to get together and catch up on one another's lives, it is considered respectful and important to attend the holiday. Often, the family members first visit the elders, and this includes the grandparents and the parents. It is also considered respectful for people to visit their mothers- and fathers-in-law during the Korean New Year.

Including travel expense, preparation for this holiday is very costly. Gifts are usually given to family members and new clothes are worn during the holiday. Traditional food is prepared for many family members coming to visit for the holiday. These families prepare a modest ancestral rite only with necessary foods for Seollal.

Many preparations go into celebrating the Korean New Year. During the first morning, Koreans pay their respect towards their ancestors. Traditional foods are placed on a table as an offering to the ancestors, and a rite begins with deep bows from all family members. This is a sign of respect and a very important practice on the first day of the New Year in Korea. It is also where they pray for the well-being of all the family members.

Many Koreans dress up in colorful traditional Korean clothing called hanbok. Hanbok are usually worn for special occasions such as weddings, Korean New Year, child's first birthday, etc. However, with modernization and evolving mores in the culture, more people tend to prefer westernized, modern clothing to the hanbok. After the rite, the members have a big feast.

Korea, happy 2018. Happy New Year!

Coréia, feliz 2018. Feliz Ano Novo!

Maislenitsa, the Russian Carnival, brings together attractions in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Despite the comparison, the two parties have the same fun in common. In Russia, this traditional Slavic holiday celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of Lent. The tradition is to eat a year of pancakes in a single day, burn straw dolls and hit each other with heavy bags. Take a look at our guide to find out where to go, and what to expect from the old folk carnival in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Ready for Maislenitsa? Although the official celebration is from February 12 to 18, the attractions already start on Friday (9).

Traditional holiday celebrates the end of winter

From archery to sledding

In the park Kolomenskoye will be built a palisade, the traditional Russian defense structure, and visitors will have the opportunity to shoot with a bow and arrow inside that nine-meter-high wooden construction.

Sleigh ride in Kolomenskoye

In addition, the Kolomenskoye will have room for sleigh rides, and will still have krujala - a type of carousel, such as a large swing or a giant mini-wheel.

In the tsar's house

In the Revolution Square will be a large-scale reconstruction of the time of the emperor Alexander 1. During its reign, after the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, against Napoleon, the celebration of Máslenitsa gained its present face.

The program will give participants the chance to play croquet (the kind that Alice in Wonderland plays with hedgehogs and a flamingo) and other traditional Russian games. There will also be a 19th century etiquette school on the square.

Immersive Theater

Manezhnaya Square will become a huge outdoor stage to receive "Tsarskaya Maslenitsa", a play where the audience joins in the fun. The brain behind this event is producer and director Vitáli Borovik, founder of the Liquid Theater collective and winner of the 2009 Golden Mask, the most prestigious national theater award.

Press Manezhnaya will turn big stage in the open

Antique Craft Course

This is also a unique opportunity to do "something Russian" with your own hands. In Tverskaya Square, there will be workshops teaching to paint wooden plates (eg khokhloma) and embroidery, and potters will show how to make the izratsi (a ceramic tile or clay to cover ovens and facades).

In Tverskoy Boulevard, you will learn how to make woolen type dolls, bake buns that symbolize spring and carve wooden birds.

Already at Novy Arbat, there will be master classes, led by British School of Design graduates, who will teach how to create masks and carnival accessories. In addition to traditional Russian objects, there will also be traditional bear and horse masks from the Czech Republic and carnival accessories from Germany and Venice.

Play Fight
Playing fighting in Russia is a pastime that has survived for centuries - nothing seems more fun to most Russians than an honest, manly fight.

With rigid rules, a fighting game is a tradition for centuries.

The activity, however, is done with strict rules to keep things out of control. In addition to a trunk for bag fighting on Tverskoi Boulevard, other strength competitions include battles with imitation swords and tug of war.

Saint Petersburg. February 12-18

Specials at Marinsky Theater

Every year, the Marinsky Theater becomes the venue for an international choir festival, and the next edition begins on February 12. With the opening of the Prague Philharmonic Choir on February 15, there will be a four-hour performance of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Maiden of the Snow" with simultaneous Russian and English subtitles.

Festival is the opportunity to visit the famous Marinsky Theater

Ice Mountains
Ice slides are a classic Russian winter entertainment, where everyone is equal - authorities and ordinary citizens, urban and urban, children and adults. Throughout the week of Maislenitsa, you can glide through the ice mountain on Zayachy Island next to the Fortress of St. Peter and St. Paul (do not forget to wear waterproof pants). Then stop by the pancake festival.

Scarecrow on fire - Strawberry burning symbolizes the end of winter

The last day of Maslenitsa is the most fun: a great scarecrow is burned as the symbol of winter, which will soon come to an end. It is on that day that the most interesting things happen. The scarecrow is just the high point, and the most spectacular bonfires of St. Petersburg occur on the Zayachy and Elagin islands.

No matter where you decide to go, make sure you're on an empty stomach! Seven days are not enough for this festival full of food. Check out the daily schedule for Maslenitsa, or try a beer pancake recipe.

Máslenitsa, o Carnaval russo, reúne atrações em Moscou e São Petersburgo

Feriado tradicional celebra o fim do inverno

PRaça Manezhnaya irá virar grande palco a céu aberto

Especiais no Teatro Marinsky

Morlaix. Lucien Kerriou kept the memory of the museum: the last guardian and guide of oral tradition. - Morlaix. Lucien Kerriou manteve a memória do museu: o último guardião e guia de tradição oral. - Morlaix.

The work at the museum is launched for an opening with great pomp in 2020. Return on the history of places with Lucien Kerriou, the last guardian and guide of oral tradition.

The oral tradition in Brittany is sacred. It has become the main way to learn and cultivate. Some still remember the Pilhaouerians, these ragpickers who roamed the mountains of Arrée by peddling the local news.

At the museum of Morlaix where he worked until 1993, Lucien Kerriou was the last "guardian and guide of oral tradition". During the visits he proposed, the guide disseminated the knowledge of places he had assimilated with Pierre Jolu, the former guardian, who himself had learned from his predecessors, Madame Saillour and, before her, Mr. Madec.

" The Mummy "

Over the years, Lucien Kerriou enriched his speech, through numerous and incessant readings related to the very disparate content of the works that made up the museum of that time. "When I arrived on April 1, 1966, the entrance was then through the rue des Vignes, remembers the former guide at the height of his 84 years. My office was on the left, at the top of the steps, and a doorbell made it possible for me to announce a presence when I was in the museum. "

Inside this one, two sarcophagi surrounded the entrance. "There was also, in a window, the head of an authentic Egyptian, a man in his forties, preserved in formaldehyde. Many Morlaisiens and visitors of the time were marked by this vision of mummified head where one could still perfectly distinguish the teeth and the hair. "

In a costume

The museum offered a variety of things, funeral urns, models of frigates, the ship's gun Alcide sunk in the bay of Morlaix, safes with secret locks, furniture Breton, beds closed, chests to grain and a painting room with works by Delacroix, Monet and Eugène Boudin.

"I was doing guided tours with commentaries, all in a navy blue suit with a small vest, gold buttons and a cap, smiles Lucien Kerriou. Tips were numerous and sometimes important. Until the 1950s, there was no salary. "

"Nobody wanted to take back"

In 1967, Lucien Kerriou and his wife Yvette and their three children moved into the official residence of the museum, rue des Vignes. "It was very small. An entrance, a kitchen, a room for children and another for us upstairs. The toilets in the museum and no showers or heating, just a coal stove. The benefits: no rent, free coal and electricity. "

With his family, they will stay in this house until 1974, when they will build a house "with all the comfort". Alone until the 1980s, he was joined by other colleagues, "but nobody wanted to resume these public tours," laments Lucien Kerriou.

The caretaker will continue to offer guided tours until 1993, then the oral transmission that lasted until then stopped there.

The museum has evolved, the entrance was through the porch of the Place des Jacobins and the old museum has given way to a new one.

Closed since last May, this Mecca of Morlaisian cultural life will find a second youth with a big project of works carried out until 2020. Lucien Kerriou will undoubtedly be one of the first visitors!

Morlaix. Lucien Kerriou manteve a memória do museu.

" A mamãe "

« Personne n’a voulu reprendre »
